In February 2023, Thorpe Park confirmed that Hyperia will be constructed by Mack Rides. It will become the tallest Mack Rides Hyper Coaster at height of 236ft (72M), it will be similar Mack Ride's other Hyper Coasters Flash at Lewa Adventure (Shaanxi China), DC Rivals Hyper Coaster at Warner Bros. Movie World (Queensland, Australia) and Hyper Coaster at Land Of Legends Theme Park (Antalya, Turkey), the final one of these being the one which Thorpe has sound surveyed for this project.
Hyperia replaces the Canada Creek (Old Town) area of the resort, in the process of construction, Rocky Express, Timber Tug Boat, Lumber Jump, alongside the Fright Night Attractions Platform 15 and Creek Freak Massacre as well as the standing but not operating since 2015 Loggers Leap, the resorts iconic log flume will all be removed to make way for the project.
The plans were released as part of a Public Consultation on the 10th December 2021, and from the looks of the layout it is expected to feature 2 to possibly 4 inversions, and a number of outward banking turns, and airtime moments.
The plans were approved by the council and then by the secretary of state for levelling up on 2nd November 2022, giving Thorpe Park the go-ahead for the UK's Tallest Rollercoaster.
By the end of 2022 the three locomotives of the Canada Creek Railway have left the resort, and the remaining part of the track has been removed, at present at the locos future is uncertain, it is rumoured they have been sent back to Severn Lamb, the original manufacture to be re-furbished before going onto their future home. Rocky Express has been dismantled, and the resort confirmed on 12th January 2023 that the much-loved little train ride had been retired from the theme park industry, and the early demolition of the area formerly home to Canada Creek/Old Town has commenced and the area has been flattened ready for the construction of the coaster.
The name Hyperia was released by the park alongside an animation on Thursday 5th October 2023, and Vertical Construction for the record breaking starting on the 9th October 2023.
